6. Three Cha Chas

The Three Cha Chas is a series of three consecutive forward or backward lock steps, danced to the counts of 4&1, 2&3, 4&1. They come in two varieties: Those danced in open facing position, and those danced in side by side position.

6a. Three Cha Chas Forward

Three Cha Chas danced in closed or open facing position can be taken forward or backward. When the man dances forward, the lady dances backward, and vice versa. Three Cha Chas Forward begin with a RF forward lock, typically following a RF back break on counts 2,3.

6b. Three Cha Chas Back

Three Cha Chas danced in closed or open facing position can be taken forward or backward. When the man dances forward, the lady dances backward, and vice versa. Three Cha Chas Back begin with a LF back lock, typically following a LF forward break on counts 2,3.

6c. Three Cha Chas in Right Side Position

Three Cha Chas danced in side by side position are taken forward on opposite feet, either in left side position (lady on man's left) or right side position (lady on man's right side). When danced in right side position, the man begins with a LF forward lock, the lady a RF forward lock.

Either the first or third Cha Cha (or both), taken on counts 4&1, can be danced instead as a chasse to side, facing partner.

6d. Three Cha Chas in Left Side Position

Three Cha Chas danced in side by side position are taken forward on opposite feet, either in left side position (lady on man's left) or right side position (lady on man's right side). When danced in left side position, the man begins with a RF forward lock, the lady a LF forward lock.

Either the first or third Cha Cha (or both), taken on counts 4&1, can be danced instead as a chasse to side, facing partner.
