13. Natural Top

The Natural Top is a type of turning movement taken in closed position, where the couple circles around an imaginary point directly in between.

The basic sequence is a combination of two steps. On one step, the man steps side with his left foot, while the lady steps forward on her right foot between his feet. On the next step, he crosses his right foot behind his left foot while she steps sideways on her left foot. This two-step sequence is repeated to the counts of 2,3,4&1. Approximately one full rotation is completed with each measure of music.

This sequence can be repeated indefinitely, finishing as desired on the first count of any measure. As written in the man's and lady's chart, it spans 3 measures of music. On the final step, the man will close his right foot to his left and cease the rotation.

Alternatively, the man can close his foot on the final step and allow the rotation to continue, leading the lady to step slightly offset to his right side, and following with a Natural Opening Out or a Closed Hip Twist.

If the man ends with his left foot to side (as if to have taken steps 1-10 in the chart), he can lift the left hand and follow with steps 6-10 of Hockey Stick.
