I want to know how you entered the lovely world of latin and ballroom dance?
For me to ask I have to relate my story.
I saw a movie "That's Entertainment" back when it first played the theatres, afterwards my sister and I were goofing around on the sidewalk and she said to MOM and DAD can we do that? 2 weeks later we had our first lesson.
So I blame her for my carrer choices.j.

My friends were attending classes on ballroomdancing and they asked me to come along too. Initially I didn't want to go and declined, so then they begged me and eventually dragged me to the danceschool. I was a pain in the backside...

Turns out that I love it more than all of them combined though!

i always wanted to dance , but living in a small town far from classes , i rejoiced when someone came 8 years ago and started classical ballet classes.but because of the lack of interest the teacher left and asked my sister and i to continue, though that would mean driving 40 km once a week.we didnt do it.
I think most of you ( in sa ) know the skippy peanut butter ad where the little guy says:"if you want something bad enough , idt will happen." a week after i saw an ad in the paper advertising a social studio 80km north. the manday at assembly , the openig teacher said:"if you can dream it , you can do it." 3 weeks later i had my first lesson and now look back on 8 months of dancing. leaving the social studio on the previous friday ( yesterday ) i look now too next year when i am starting competitive dancing with a new partner and new teacher.
the guy who would have gone with me chickened out a week before our first lesson due to his mom's illness. but i posted a few ads on the net and found a partner for competitive!!!
FATE??? ...maybe
God's will and guidedance???... Definitely.

Well, I would like to say that I've "entered" the world of ballroom dance, but as yet I have not. I'm sort of standing on the threshold. I've studied ballet for eleven years, progessing up to classes five days per week and dancing with a company. But soon burnout got the better of me, and I left that life and started doing a bit of theatre and teaching ballet class to little girls. But I miss the life of dancing, and started to become interested in ballroom. My husband dances socially with me, and we've been taking classes in swing dancing for the past year, and that really has me wanting to know more about ballroom!

Then, last year I saw a production out of Australia, I'm sure you've seen it... Burn the Floor!!?? It totally floored me. I turned to my husband and said: "I have to do that!!!"

And now I'm here, trying to figure out where to start!

We are anticipating a move to the SF Bay area next year, but I'd like to get started with a teacher here in Michigan for the time being. I can't wait!

How did everyone else come to ballroom dancing? I'd love to hear your stories!

One night, I had a dream. It was a stormy night, much like tonight, and my chemistry exam was upon me. Out of the blue, the multiple bonds of a benzene ring turned into snakes. Soon all the snakes started moving around in a circle, trying to swallow the tail of the one in front. All of a sudden, they stood up on their tails and started doing the Conga. One of the snakes then spoke to me, sounded like the biblical snake from Eden too, said that my future is in dancing and that its untrue that cool guys don't dance.. I woke up, determined that I was just dreaming, and then went back to sleep.

Shortly thereafter, my then girlfriend "suggested" that we take ballroom lessons, and I was powerless to say no - seeing that the snake had already spoken to me. So, there, that's my story, and I am sticking to it..

I took ballet for a couple of years when I was young and fell in love with it. After we moved away my mother didn't have money to send me to any more dance classes so that was the end of my "dance career". Since I have been busy with school for practically all of my life I never had time to resume taking dance lessons of any kind until very recently. Now that I am in my last year (finally!!!) I have time for things other than studying. I was just interested in ballet at first, but decided to give ballroom a chance since it's a little easier to learn. That, and the fact that I've also wanted to learn how to dance salsa. So...I took my first lesson about a month ago and now I'm hooked!
