My body arrives over my new standing foot before my new moving foot closes to it! This is true for EVERY SKILLED DANCER - though the scope of this difference will be different for different sorts of steps. It's most obvious on the lowering steps, for example 3 of a feather.

On the only part of the standing foot touching the floor, obvious. As to where it is over - that will change throughout the time we are on the toe. Originally it will be off balance past the foot on one side, then it will pass over the foot, then it will project off balance on the other side of the foot. Basic human movement!

If it does, then you ARE NOT MOVING.
YOU CANNOT BE MOVING (PROGRESSING) UNLESS YOUR WEIGHT IS MOVING. IF IT IS MOVING, IT CANNOT STAY OVER THE BALL OF FOOT! It may stay supported from pressure at the ball of foot, but it CANNOT STAY OVER THE BALL OF FOOT AND ALSO BE MOVING. It's contrary to the very definition of movement!

In other words, you can only lower as much as your horizontal travel accomodates. If you lower more than that, lower in place rather than lowering by moving, you will dig precisely the kind of "hole" he was cautioning you about. You must not lower "below" the swing - you can only lower along it.
