I personally think that the quickstep is the dance which will showcase anyone's weaknesses when it's not a choreographed routine. Mistakes will be bigger and more obvious if either the leader or follower doesn't have great technique.

We have been working on doing a correct quickstep for over a year. But now that we are getting the basic technique down, it is becoming a fun dance. Even though are moves are mostly the basics, we now enjoy quickstep.

Unforetunately around here they play very little quickstep, so progressing in the Quickstep is pretty slow.

It seems like a dance, were dancing with a lead with weak technique, would be very frustrating, much more than most dances. That may be why ladies avoid in for social dancing.

personaly i love QS its one of my most enjoyed dances other than latin but it takes a lot of technique,patence and lessons to get it correct. it does help if your confident your partner knows what their doing its all up to the individual realy. the music does play a big part but for dances like foxtrot waltz etc nothing new has realy been brought out recently so u dont have much choice

come on girls swap the straps and heels for a ballroom shoe an give it a go latin isnt everything

In this country quickstep is one of the FIRST dances to be taught.
To be honest, i believe one reason women don't like it is because they're afraid of falling. It's easier to get feet caught up because of the quicker tempo. Especially if they're dancing socially with a novice.
Quickstep is a fun, exciting dance (listen to the audience response at a big comp) and you can get away with relatively simple steps (relative to foxtrot and slow waltz) and still dance a reasonably exciting routine.

Yes! Good point...why risk an injury? The lady is at a distinct disadvantage in a spontaneous or social setting...at least the gentleman knows the choreography!

Many years ago when i first learnt to dance. the first dance taught was the quickstep. It was the first dance in the Technique book and was always the first taught in a Bronze Medal Class. I have always thought that it was because the feet do close, which later helps with the Waltz as well as toe lowering. But more importantly it teaches how to drive and let the drive do the work to carry us onto the quicks. The Quickstep has everything in it that would help the Waltz which was the next to be learnt. I don' t see how anyone can dislike the music. Singing in the Rain. The Lady is a Tramp. Great Quicksteps.

The comments are the usual answers, when people have little or no understanding of the subject matter .

Choice in learning is always paramount-- but-- one should not dispel something, until you have given at a fair appraisal.
Music is the" honey " that attracts people to specific dances..and thats o.k.

But in real terms, depending upon where you live, and availabilty, q.s. may be come more of a priority .
If europe based, its nigh impossble ( in the b/room genre ) to avoid it.

If you prefer latin only-- then I will accede your point .

lastly, one does not need a ton of tricks, to enjoy q.step-- the Bronze and silver syl. will keep you entertained .

This is from another dance but still applies to the quickstep. Once our thigh bone is lined up over our shin bone we dont need muscle strength to stand. When the knee bends we need the muscles. So on your quicks let nature take its course and ease off . drive the slows , have a rest on the quicks. This way we get light and shade and it won't be so physical which it will if you work all your steps with the same inensity. Thanks goes to Slavik.

A nice idea as a mind game, perhaps, but patently false.

Standing is only muscle-free if you lock your knees by hyperextending them, which you most definitely do not want to do in any of the swing dances. In order to keep a healthy and responsive slight degree of flex in your knee even at its "straight"-est, you will have to keep the muscles somewhat engaged in order to keep it from bending further than this slight amount under your weight. The challenge is to learn to maintain the tone sufficient for this soft knee, while not actually tensing up the whole area.

I am a relatively new dancer, could you post a bronze/& some silver combination routine that i could use.
