I have been taking ballroom and latin dancing
lessons for about a year now. I am strictly a social dancer and I enjoy the dancing immensely; it has positively affected my personality and my social skills. I started off in a group class that dwindled until only two of us were left, so we are now effectively partners.
Often I fear that I might "lose" the dancing, e.g. if my partner stops wanting to dance or if my teacher leaves, etc. (I don't live in the US or Europe so dancing is not as big here as it is over there.)
I would like to know from more experienced dancers whether this sort of thing becomes less of a factor as one gets better at dancing? I feel very dependent on my partner because I can't really dance with anyone else. Is that purely because I am inexperienced or is it an error on my part for not trying to dance with many other people? My partner and I go out dancing sometimes (not very often though) and we usually go to general (not specifically ballroom) dancing venues. At those venues I do not have the courage to ask anyone else to dance for fear that I might not be able to lead them properly.
