Adopting FLASH (PLEASE DON'T)

In your last newsletter, you say that you plan to adopt Flash technology. Why???????????????
Please, please, please, please, please, don't go to Flash!!!!!!!!!!! That would be giant step backwards.

Flash may be flashy, but it is a really lousy choice for dance videos. With something like quicktime, it gives the viewer (me) total control over how I view it. Very often I like to be able to step through one frame at a time, or maybe view one small section several times in a row, or sometimes view the video with sound off. All this capability is built into the quicktime viewer. I think that with Flash, you would have to put in a lot of effort to give the same kind of control.

Actually, if you are going to adopt a new technology, MPEG1 would be a much better choice (assuming there is an MPEG1 viewer for the Mac). The main reason for that is that I can burn an MPEG1 file (presently, I save the quicktime files and convert them) to a video CD, then play it back on my DVD player in the living room when we want to practice a new variation. Since my computer is not located in an area where we can watch the video while we learn, burning to a CD makes it easier. If you switch to Flash, this will no longer be possible, and your site will be a lot less useful to me (an probably to many others)
