Most people in the US don't start dancing until their teens or 20's. I didn't start until I was 18, I'm now 20 and will be just starting to compete next year and I plan on going all the way *fingers crossed, knock on wood, rubs the rabbit foot*.

I'm not sure how long you've been dancing so my advice might be a bit useless but my advice is to just enjoy your dancing and lessons right now and when you're ready to compete, go for it. But don't worry about competitions too soon or you'll burn out. Good luck!

No one is ever too old to compete, either. Competitions have age groups.

NO of course not.

Enjoy ballroom dancing and possibly supplement with other dance disciplines.

WELL YOU ARE TO YOUNG TO START YOUR DANCE CARRER. FOR EXAMPLE DONALD JOHSON DID NOT START DANCING UNTIL HE WAS 18, ENIO CORDOVA THE CHOREOGRAPHER OF DANCE WITH ME DID NOT START DANCING UNTIL HE WAS 27, AND JUST LIKE THEM THERE IS MANY OTHERS. OH ONE MORE BILL SPARKS WAS FIRST A PROFFESIONAL TRAINED BALLET DANCER AND HE ACTULLY DANCE WITH BIG DANCE COMPANIE IN THE USA, BUT HE DID NOT START HIS DANCE CARRER IN BALLROOM UNTIL HE WAS 25.
well...

I certainly can't agree with Jose Valencia. I'll begin with saying that I am an amateur ballroom dancer who has no intention of turning pro (regardless of my age); I like to keep dancing as a hobby. In order to become a professional, we all have to start somewhere - at the beginning. Granted, SalsaSweetie55, if you plan to make a career out of dancing, it doesn't happen overnight. All those people that Jose mentioned - where do you think they started? One of my instructors started dancing at age 3. That doesn't mean he was a pro [at age 3]. SalsaSweetie55, follow your dreams.

I was 24 when I started dancing. I just turned 46 in September and took first place in 8 dances (Pro/Am Full Silver American Latin/Rhythm) at last year's American Star Ball Competition after being out of practice for 10 years. Don't ever think it's too late for anything.
