In a social dance scene I try to converse once in a while when dancing specially if my partner is uptight. Of course, I only do simple patterns since I can't do two things at the same time. Usually this happens when my partner is more novice than me. If my partner is more advanced than me, I usually shut up and perform.

I usually discus the 'Distinguishing features of the early hominids and Australopithecus from early man', but surely, that is too mundane for you..

Perhaps you should try singing together while you dance, a la Fred and Ginger...

What can I say, I am easily amused..

If you are planning to talk while you are dancing, be careful. Most conversation occurs while sitting or at the start or end of a dance number. Not many people enjoy useless chatter while they are trying to dance. The movement to the music does the talking.
