American style (AS) ballroom waltz also has open dance positions. Country can be very similar to AS waltz depending the couple. I have noticed that many country dancers move their waltz down the floor in a similar fashion as two-step. "Streamlined" steps (3 forward steps directly down line of dance) in either shadow or closed ballroom holds are common.

CW waltz is faster and not always done in close hold. ie Waltz across Texas
