I agree with hoofer - the comps are what you make them. Ask yourself why you're going to competitions - do you really just want to win that trophy, or are you using the comp as a means to measure your improvement? At the end of the day, amateur dancing is all about having fun and to some extent, providing entertainment for the audience. Of course, you will be nervous for your first few comps, and everyone wants to dance well - that's natural. And you will see people taking it oh, so seriously. But don't lose sight of the fun.
