It is hard to give an average. A lot of it depends on how many compeetitions a year you plan on attending, how far away they are, how many entries you do and so on. I personally have spent as little as $200 and as much as $1000 on compitions(not including costumes). One way to cut costs is to find a group of people and split travel expenses and a hotel room. Also try to find comps that are within driving distance. I only live a few hours from you and during a busy year I can find about 12 comps to drive to and amatuers have more than that. The best way that I found is to select a comp that is about 6 months away and find out all the costs involved, If you go buy yourself with your partner it will be cheaper than if you go with a studio. Of course there is a alot of fun when going with a studio. I hope this helps in planning
