The ISTD and IDTA syllabi are intended for professional teachers exams to qualify for membership of the society at the appropriate level. IDTA use Associate, Member and Fellow, and ISTD us Associate, Licentiate and Fellow.

Having developed the syllabi it made sense to also use them for amateur medal tests. In this case the levels are described as Bronze, Silver and Gold.

The ISTD (some say in order to make more money from exams) added a Student Teacher/Pre Bronze level. Note that Student Teacher grade does not qualify the holder to teach, only to attend meetings for an additional fee!

Notice too that some figures appear at different levels in the two societies. For example, the Double Reverse Spin is ISTD Associate and IDTA Member.

They are degrees that ISTD grants to dancers who want to get. I see that some sites divide them up into 3 levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold corresponding to Associate, Licentiate, Fellow. But some go in more details as follows: Pre-Broze, Silver and Gold corresponding to Student Teacher, Associate, Licentiate, Fellow. Student Teacher is a beginners' degree.
