I actually found that getting serious about dancing gave me both the motivation and the basic
conditioning to enjoy other forms of exercise.
Dancing is fun, even if it's work. Do enough of it and your body starts to be able to keep up - which means you can also go do some moderate running or swimming or cycling without feeling like you are going to die. Which in turns puts you in better shape for dancing. Just be carefull not to exercise in a way that leaves you too sore to dance.
I've also found that I can get into a really bad mood when deprived of a dance workout for much over a day - but that a good intense run, even if not very long, can trigger some of what I'm needing biochemically. And if I load the walkman with quickstep, jive, fast chacha, etc then I can almost fool my mind too.
