I am trying to figure out how to do an Open Left or Right Box Turn in Silver Level American Foxtrot-- does anyone know the answer to this?
Open Left Box Turn: also called Open Reverse Turn. Timing S,Q,Q,S,Q,Q. For man's steps FWD with LF towards DC, side step with RF towards LOD, back step with LF backing LOD. At this time the lady is stepping OP(outside partner), to man she is dancing as PO, partner outside). Then man follows by dancing back(RF), side(LF), FWD(RF) continue to turn left on each step till man is facing LOD again by stepping OP(outside partner) to her right side on the last step.
Open Right Box Turn: Dance an open twinkle(advance twinkle) first. Now you are in PP. Follow by man RF step thru towards LOD in PP, then LF go OP cutting her off(man now facing DC against LOD), RF step to the side towards LOD(facing straight center of the floor). Timing for the above is S,Q,Q. Second half of Open Right Box Turn, man continue leading lady to turn right by dancing back with LF backing LOD backing DW(diagonally wall)on slow(beat 1-2), RF to the side continue turning toward DC facing LOD on quick(beat 3). Draw LF close to the RF without weight on "&"(of 3-&-4, between 3 and 4 beat) and rise to toe. Then brush LF out in PP again on beat 4(now you are facing DC towards LOD).
Also, how does one do an Open Left/Right Rock Turn? How does it differ from the Bronze level Rock turns?
Open Left Rock Turn:
Consider you are dancing Open Reverse Turn(S,Q,Q,S,Q,Q). Only the first 2 steps dance as your magic left turn(man do LF forward on S, RF back on Q). 3rd step to the side(Q). 4-5-6 of open reverse turn to end(continuity ending)
Open Right Rock Turn:
Same as you would dance Natural Spin Turn start with man's LF back, RF forward and rise(lady telemark) and man then pivot turn toward right and land on LF(can be overturned if you want). Finish second half with RF back, LF side and RF forward OP as in continuity ending. Timing is still S,Q,Q,S,Q,Q.
I hope I have made these descriptions clearly. It is harder than I thought.
