After Swaying to the right on three of a Natural Turn in the Waltz. Does one straighten before lowering, Or come out of the Sway half way down. Or do they hold it right into the next movement. Before jumping in look at Luca and Lorain Waltz Demo on youtube. You wont need slow motion to see what they do.

Why did you put "Rise and Lower" in the subject line instead of "Sway"?

All of the couples - the Barrichis, Howson and Bolton, Gozzoli and Betti, the Hawkins, and the Hiltons - dissolve the sway by the time they've lowered at the end of step 3. So do Jonathan and Melissa in the video on this site.

The Barrichis dissolve their sway more slowly than the others. Perhaps they're not as good.

Jofjonesboro. Not quite correct right. Luca is off and running still holding the Sway from step three. Are you able to watch the clip as fractionally as you wish. I dont think so. And you are most certainly not looking at the back view of Luca on the 5th bar which is an Open Impetus. You won't even need slow motion fot that one. I don't know, maybe some have a more trained eye for detail than others. But when it is pointed out for that brief moment you might see what is, and not what you think you see. Lets hear it for Bar five. Or is it beat fifteen.
Concerning the rise and fall. There is a very good video clip on youtube of all rounds and the final from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom in the Waltz. How can we tell it is not the same ballroom that the British is held at. The stage is on the short side of the floor.. The event is staged by the Imperial Society. No tails and it is a Senior event. What is noticable is the lack of rise and lowering. If you look in the first round there are two ladies dancing as a partnership as well. But as I said . Even the ultimate winners very short on rise and fall. Which is how I would imagine most of you social dancers who write in dance. No disrespect , just stating a cold fact.

I don't think that we social dancers are much concerned by how you "imagine" we might dance. Which "cold fact" were you citing again: I must have missed it?

Those of us who "write in", as well, are demonstrating TWO skills: that's very advanced for just social dancers isn't it? It must take your breath away.

[Sigh] Polished giving us his usual shtick

Polished, if you could watch the entire dance instead of trying to isolate on those microseconds which you think make your point, you'll notice that Luca tends to hold his left land a bit high on most sequences.

What you call continuation of sway is really just blending.

Actually, there's not much in your post besides disrespect. Go ahead and be as snotty as you like. I realized a long time ago that dancing means that I'll have to put up with your brand of pathetic snobbishness.

Once upon a time the Waltz was played at 32BPM. With the speed of the music being played today there is more time for Sway Swing or Drive and of course the rise and fall. Luca in his demonstration is dancing to 20BPM. Most demonstations given by Professionals are dancing to slower than the official tempo in both Latin and Modern with a few exceptions.. In a competition I doubt if any of you would strike a Waltz or a Foxtrot that isn't played at 28BPM which gives much more time to play around with than it did a few years ago. That is what Luca does on the clip from the beginning to the last bar of music.

All of the above. There are nice effects that can be produced by neutralizing the sway early in the lowering, and also nice ones that can be produced by carrying it through into the next figure.

It all depends on what character you want to achieve.

Beginners will of course first be given the basic textbook method in which you should be neutral by the time you are fully lowered if not before. I'd be concerned about anyone who could not execute that well, but for someone who can there are many other valid artistic choices as well.

Why, Polished, are you attacking social dancers? We may not be 'Luca and Larain" calibre but I "imagine" that neither are you.

Have to agree with Ladydance. Polished seems to enjoy baiting others as a means to spout his own theories on dance and insult others. His own methods of analysis make me "imagine" he might not be worth watching on a dance floor.

Both Mirko & Pino hold the sway until going into the fourth step in their basic waltz.
