They are not different, only the description is different.

In the feather ending the side is already leading coming out of PP so it is not necessary to mention it specifically.

In the feather, the left side starts to lead as a result of the CBM on 1, but the side lead description emphasises the fact.

ok - side leads aside - what about the actulal foot positions - any ideas whey they are different (or why they are at least described differently) ?

Paul. I always thought that to say left shoulder leading might be mistaken as a twisting of the spine. So it is left side leading and not left shoulder. Does that make sense.

im not sure why they changed it. i guess they didnt want to see a rotation of the shouldr girdle ie twisting the spine.

When he was asked to write the Technique Book by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Most if not all the steps and technique were already down on paper. I think it is reasonable to assume that shoulder leading was being taught at that time. Even if he didn't agree, which I don't think he did. He just followed on probably not wanting to tread on too many toes.

Actually he mentions it zero times.

This is a misquote as has been pointed out to you numerous times in the past.

What he actually said was that a specfic situation should be thought of as more of a forward swing than a twisting. That's a comparative statement rather than an absolute one.

More importantly, it is hardly the same thing as saying generally that there is no twisting, especially as there obviously is in promenade position, and at a more advanced level a whole catalog of other places as well.
