Get some coaching in these dances from a qualified coach. If you have been taking private lessons, then it is time to change coaches. If the man is not taught how to lead and the lady is not taught how to follow then you are being ripped off. Latin is easy to lead if you are taught how to lead international latin figures. In fact the structure of the lead is the same in all of the international latin dances. Good luck.

Cuban breaks are easy to lead if you remember that the footwork is flat on all steps. If you take a normal sized step on the 4-1 count of the preceding figure, you will always have trouble. The first step of a Cuban Break cannot be danced properly unless you take a smaller than normal step on the preceding 4-1 count. Couple this with slightly more tone in the lead arm to arrest the Lady's step.

Cuban Breaks are small and sexy movements without complete changes of weight. Women respond well to the movement if the preceding step is small. A normal sized step on the precede sends a confusing signal to your partner. Hope this helps
