Ohhh okay.. once again, terminology has created confusion. Too many names mean too many things. In my neck of the woods, west coast IS Hollywood/Dean Collins/smooth style/whatever, so I thought you were talking about lindy the whole time! (Boy do I feel silly!)
I agree, it shouldn't matter what style anyone dances, as long as they're enjoying themselves. I've been a savoy follower my whole lindy life, and I've recently begun planning to move to the Austin Texas area where they do mostly Hollywood. I had the same concerns you do about what the leader would expect me to do so I took an all day Hollywood workshop. It seemed to me that all the differences came about because of the leads, and as a follower I didn't really have a choice but to follow whichever style he was leading- I couldn't possibly try to savoy when he was leading Hollywood and vice versa. So, I don't think you need to worry about not being able to handle a different style on the floor.. just wait to see what the leader is doing.
By the way, where are you from? It's so nice to have this forum where we can just talk about dancing!
