Very nicely written. Anybody reading this and are interesred should read all of the above. The point I am going to make is. This is Waltz. That if I don't have a straightish knee at midpoint on step one. My initiall drive on step one is being used onto step two. But if I do the step as per Richard Gleave there will have to be two compressions. One will be before step one, and one after step one. He says too many people forget the second compression and do a very uninteresting step into the ,( he does an Open Imputus making sure the head is taken back with the foot). Too many people leave their head forward impeding the movement. This is spoken of on the tape.
To recap. Some are going straight through one onto two with the same drive. Others are using another compression. Look and see
Foxtrot. aren't those videos on www.thedancingchannel.tv good to watch and learn from. I would advice that you first look at the feet of all those that are shown. Then go to the knees. Then at the upper body contact of all the couples. And last of all look at the position of the man's head within their own frame. Would you say they are looking ahead or are they looking hard left on the outside of their left hand. Keep an eye on Chris Hawkin in the Wave for a normal head position for the man in a Closed Hold.
Unless we know how to look at a video , we miss things. Take for instance those who have a Latin video. Rumba for instance. You have played it a 100 times. Could you tell me what the man is doing with his arms and hands on Spot Turn. Or the lady on a hip twist without having a another. You know now and probably will take notice. Do the same with Modern. Keep looking and learn how the champions do it.
