Hello, my name is Shawn McMarlin and I am a dance instructor in Ohio. I read your email asking about dance floors that are suitable for teaching ballroom and latin on. The studio I work in is owned by a couple who, before getting to busy to compete, were rated in the top five in the U.S. in American nine dance and the lady dancer is a formal latin champion of Canada. The reason I mention this is so you know the background enough to realize that they really know what they are doing. We were recently discussing the material used on our ballroom floor. When first starting their new studio, they faced the same problem, the cost of a new floor. The conclusion that they came up with was to use plywood for the flooring. They made sure to use a lot of padding underneath so the floor had some give to it.
I hope this is of some help to you. We have been dancing on the floor for five years and it is still going strong.
Good luck!
Shawn
