Any ballroom dance Kentucky Wildcats out there? Looking for weekend classes or workshops in the Greater Lexington area. Most dancers in our area travel to Louisville (3 1/2 hours) or Cincinnati area (4 hours) for any advanced lessons. Lexington is closer. (2 hours) However most local dancers seem to shun the Lexington studios. All are reluctant to say why. Any suggestions? We are currently travelling to Cincy for intermediate lessons.

Have you been to the USBDA gatherings in Lexington? What are they like?

I agree the choices for advanced classes are slim. The studios in the area do not seem to be interested in offering any advanced classes, workshops or similar opportunities. The entire enviornment for dancing in this area leaves a lot to be desired.

The USABDA dances in Lexington are pretty typical of USABDA dances in general. The music is not very upbeat, and tends to be uninspiring. Much of the music is a watered-down, ballroom version of the original. Overall, the music at Lexington USABDA dances is worse than at other USABDA dances I have attended. The people are nice, but "cliquish". If I was a newcomer, I would not feel welcomed, although I know that is not the intention. The dance usually takes place the 2nd Saturday of the month. I think the cost is $10 a person.
