Since coming to the US 2.5 years ago I have lived in 3 different cities, and had the same problem in each case.... how do I get the phone numbers for coaches when I don't know anyone in the local scene ?

For example, I am trying to get hold of Timi Clark for lessons, she doesn't advertise in DanceBeat, she doesn't have a web page - there are 30 or so dance studios in Yellow Pages. How the heck do I locate her, or anyone else for that matter ? I had the same problems in DC and NY (although NY was easier).

ps For those wondering, almost every coach of any value in the UK advertises in DanceNews making it easy to find them.
pps Any recs for good open level latin and standard coaches in San Diego (with contact info!) gladly appreciated.

I read your email from september about finding a dance coach. I'm not sure where you are now living so that makes it hard for me to reply. I am a professional dance teacher and work with a husband and wife couple that placed second and the United States Ballroom Championsips for 3 consecutive years in american rhythm and smooth. We get all kinds of coaches in our studio and are friends with people all over the USA and Canada. The wife of the couple is a latin and theater arts champion of Canada. The World Dance Directory is a good place to locate teachers and places to dance. You can order your directory through the EAB Press by sending an email to spencer@dancedirectory.com. Last year's went for about $30. I don't know about this year's, but it's probably not too much more expensive.

They are also supposed to have a website, (www.dancedirectory.com), but last time I checked, it still wasn't up and running yet.
