Hey. i dont really have a clue about the dancing profession, so i was wondering if u could help me out?

My girlfriend, aged 17, is a professional ballroom dancer who lives in england. however she hasn't been dancing for around a year now bcos she has no partner. Her past partner was too young to enter some competitions as i make out. So she has been looking for a partner for competitions in england but to no avail. Apparantly all the better dancers already have a partner and there aren't really enough english dancers to begin with. She has now decided to look for someone abroad.

How long does it take to find a male partner and to get everything sorted?

How likely is it for the male dancer from abroad to relocate to england?

How hectic is the life of a competing dancer?

It can be a life-long search , it's just knowing the right people and being on the right places that will make the search more easier/faster.
As to how long it takes to get everything sorted: it depends on how much both are willing to compromise in order to make the partnership work.

How likely is it for the male dancer from abroad to relocate to england?
Only if they originally intend to move abroad. IMHO it's very unreasonable to ask someone to relocate.

How hectic is the life of a competing dancer?
Again, this depends on how active you are in the dance community. If you want to attend every competition out there, the time invested in it (training, general preperation, travelling etc.) could account for a job.

In order to see if both parties are a "match", you have to have at least one physical encounter in the form of a try-out.

If you're out of the "danceworld" for a year, and have competed with such outstanding results, it will take a lot of training in order to get back to that again, but it's not impossible. Dancing is like riding a bike or learning how to swim: you never forget Don't let the fact that her dancefriends are "further up" discourage her, it should be an encouragement for her to get back to dancing!

I am aware that just before she stopped dancing she was competing in competitions around the world as well as the nationals here in england. She told me she has come 3rd in the world for her age group too. So i guess she is professional. I suppose being out of the dancing circuit for a year will mean it will be hard to get back into it again. I also realise that it is a huge jump to make for someone quite young, with all the organising that has to take place. So i suppose it may take a very long time, especially as talks take place with a foreign person where the language barrier could cause a prob and also the distance. i think the dancers have to meet up to see if they get on and are matched, or something? I think also it could just be a dream for her to redo it as she went to watch some competition and met up with all her old dance friends, who seem to have left her behind, i.e still dancing. She may just think it as an impossible task after a while, when she forgets.

Hi Olly-

To ask another dancer to relocate or to relocate herself is unrealistic at her stage. Dancers do relocate to partner with each other when they are quite established and competing in world best known competitions.

Since she is in England, it is best to check into any ballroom dancesites there in "partner search" or look into dance publications for that purpose.
