Hello!

I'm new here, but I'm hoping I'll be around for a while. I just became interested in ballroom dance recently, and absolutely love it. As a birthday present, my Grandmother has offered to buy me a good set of dance shoes from ShowTime Dance Shoes in Atlanta (I live near Atl).

I was wondering if you had any recommendations for a very versatile comfortable mens dance shoe that can be worn by somebody with big feet (size 12 ) and can be used for a lot of dances from traditional (Foxtrot type stuff) to Latin to Swing to etc.

Right now, the shoe that looks most ideal for a lot of time on the floor for somebody like me is the new Dance Sneaker that Freed of London is making:

Here is your shoes, but I don't think they are neither for ballroom nor for lantin dancing. Try search the key word "ballroom shoes" in the Internet, it will help.

If you're doing ballroom, latin and swing then you should probably just get a pair of regular men's dance shoes. Showtime has many different brands. For breathability and durabilty get the regular leather ones, not the black cloth ones and definitely not the patent leather ones (those are generally only for ballroom competition).

Latin shoes are a lot like regular ballroom shoes, except they have higher heels. It's easier to dance latin in ballroom shoes than it is to dance ballroom in latin shoes, so if you get ballroom shoes you can do both. And you can dance swing in them, too.

I do not reccommend the dance sneakers at all. They are good if you are doing hip hop, or if you are injured and can't wear your regular dance shoes for a short period of time.

I own several different styles of dance shoes including dance sneakers. As Laura mentioned, the most versatile for ballroom are regular black leather (not patent) men's standard shoes.

Dance sneakers are really designed for jazz dancing. Because they have a synthetic sole, I use mine mainly for dancing in clubs or other venues with poor floor conditions (i.e. spilled drinks) that would damage the suede soles on ballroom or latin shoes. I also use them to practice ballroom and latin just to give my feet break from my other shoes. However, I would not wear these to go to a ballroom dance, mainly because sneakers are too casual.
