How do you respond to people who tell you "I'm sorry about my garlic breath; I'm doing everything in my power to hide it" right before you start dancing with them? Surely one should avoid eating garlic if you know that you are going to dance?

The answer to your question is obvious. I like to know if you turned him down the second time he came ask you to dance?

I had in the past danced to a lady who had enjoyed "garlic" before the dance. But I continued to ask her to dance many times that night because she is a great dancer. While another great dancer had real problem with B/O, I did not ask her again.

By the way, I always have some breath mints handy before the dance.

Hi Ken,

I agree with you completely. The person in question was my training partner so I had no choice but to continue dancing. I was rather cheesed off, though. I also carry breath mints with me when I go dancing - I think it's common courtesy to your partner(s) to smell as pleasantly as possible.

You had breath mints and you still didn't offer him any??? Goodness, does one have to explain the nuances of subtle suggestion??

My dance bag is packed with a few things, shoes, fan and shoe brush of course, and packets and packets of chewing gum and mints. At the most opportune (or inopportune, depending on how one looks at it) moment, I open a pack of chewing gum and politely offer it. The alert ones get the hint and accept my generous offer. The less than alert ones, well, dance with me less frequently for the rest of the evening. And of course, they bear the red asterisk next to them for future dance endeavors as well..

Of course, the next best thing to do is to practise to hold your breath for 2-3 minutes while dancing aerobically - and live to tell about it of course..

Shame we can't offer deodrants though...
Sri.

Sri:

Chewing Gums?
Have you seen some dancers chew gum at the quickstep timing that look like a.......?

Do you keep a spare handkie in the bag? I do.

Hahaha. My own partner was a bit slow on the uptake for the breath mint offering (he would politely decline), and I had to take him aside and explain the subtlety of the hint...he was a bit embarassed that I had to be direct but it was good for both of us in the long run.
