Selling Oneself as an Independent Contractor + Competing

I have been teaching beginning ballroom dancing for about 8 months and would like suggestions as to how I can build my business. Also, I will be competing for the first time - this month - and have been told that I should compete big time before getting certified. I can't afford to not get certified, but I love competing. Any suggestions or advice? How does a female find a partner?

Sounds like you'll be competing as a pro. Do you have a excellent coach? He/she may also be of help and guidance with partnering. And/or, have you considered doing Pro/Am with one of your students?
