Looking for a pocket digital beat counter. On my PC I have the package 'Metronome' which works quite well. It has a beat counting feature that will show a count based on the average of the last five inputs. I have the Seiko DM-20 Digital Metronome but it does not have a beat counting feature.

Does anyone know of a pocket size, easy to use beat counter?

I wonder if someone will make a smaller version. Building the function into a wristwatch would make a great product.

most electronic metronomes nowadays that designed for use in piano playing are the size of a checkbook (about 3.5 times thicker) and smaller. Make sure to get one with a LED indicator that mimicks those old-fashion metronomes with the swaying pendulum thing.

The BC100 is nice. About the size of a pack of ciggies, large LED display, single button operation.

It averages over eight counts, with a count down display as it goes, then displays the tempo. Another press divides this by four. The intention is that you press the button for each beat and it calculates the MPM based on a four beat pattern. For waltz you do your own maths.

It will run down to a very slow tempo though, unlike many PC offerings, so I just press once for each bar and get a direct reading, though this does take a bit longer.

also, you probably don't care what i say, but it's not good to depend on a metronome in dancing. you won't learn to feel the rhythm and tempo in music. it's a crutch.
