Hello I have to do an essay on why people dance. I have my reasons, and i woudl like to know yours. if you started dancing for one reason, are you still dancing for the sam reason, or have your views changed? please feel free to "Speak Easy" please just let your mind free flow and think of why you dance? This is not something that will be published so now worries about your names being released its just a simple essay for school. thank you for your time. have a wonderful day.[EMAIL]mamasitaloca3@hotmail.com[/EMAIL

I'm just a typical computer geek. Years of keypunching led me into RSI and really lousy condition. Year ago I nearly fainted when I had to go up several floors. Uch. I tried jogging, it was so boring that I did not last one month. And once I stumbled at dance site www.dancelife.ru (yep, I'm Russian). I thought it ought to be interested, and yes, it was. Two weeks later I was hooked...

Frank,
Lighten up. Field research is a standard methodological practice and why not administer the equivalent of a questionaire in this type of forum?

Sabrina,

In a few words:

I dance competitively because I like the challenge - both the challenge on the competition floor and the challenge to master the technique of International Style Ballroom. I like the sense of accomplishment as I improve.

Hi Sabrina,

I assume you are referring to conventional partner ballroom dancing.

Here is one reason-
Dancing is a very complex activity which involves the entire being (working with a partner as a team) and can be used as an alternative exercise for Hatha Yoga which at times seem to be outdated in the Global Village of the 21st. century. This is not to say that the purely physical aspect of yoga cannot be used as a complimentary exercise. Indeed it can be used and would be extremely beneficial. But I am talking about dancing as YOGA in the true sense of the word.

Sincere regards,
Andrew.

Sabrina--

this is a tough one for me to answer briefly! I started dancing when I was 17...then my reasons were simple. I was passionate about it. I loved the craft or perfecting the body movements...but especially I loved the challenge of working with someone else. Partnership gave me a feeling that ballet and jazz had never come close to matching. I love the bond of partners...the ability to play off one another and improvise, as well as the support you give one another in reaching your potential.

Unfortunately had a pretty disagreeable partner...so I left dancing for 7 years. I returned after having 2 kids...and being a stay at home mom. I still love it for the reasons I mentioned esarlier...but now I have more appreciation for it. Dancing gives us an outlet to be expressive and emotive that most adults competely lack in their lives. It gives you the freedom to create with your body an expression of music...and it puts you squarely in close contact with another human being...something else that we sometimes lack in our society. I have found through competition that dance also creates friendship, confidence, and self-awareness. Not everyone responds positively to comps. but it feels like fmily almost for those who compete often.

Dance is a powerful outlet for many people, we all use it to transform our lives in different ways...it is the ultimate self-therapy...the reasons to pursue it are as infinitely diverse as are the dancers.

Good luck!!-Mal
