The Hold.
1. The mans's left hand holding the ladies right hand.
2. The ladies left hand resting on top of the man's upper arm ( behind in the Tango ).
3. The man's right hand placed on the left shoulder blade of the lady.
IN ADDITION TO THE 3 HAND CONTACTS THERE ARE TWO MORE AREAS OF CONTACT.
4. The ladies left elbow rests on the man's right elbow.
5. The right area of the chest of each partner touches that of the other.

Position five is not how it used to be taught. The contact was at the hip level and not the chest in yesteryear.
Before jumping in on this one I would suggest a look on this site or visit youtube and look for yourselves.

How about attributing your source?

Polished, you got i. The ladies left hand resting on top of the man's upper arm. The ladies left elbow rests on the man's right elbow. I expect my partner to support her own arm weight and not rest it on mine. Perhaps you ment place without weight.

This "lady's left elbow on the man's right elbow" is all very well in theory, but in practice, it may be impossible if the couple's heights are similar.
Try this test. Bring your right arm across so that the right elbow is on your left elbow. See where your right hand ends up?
THe distance from my fingertips to my elbow is 17 inches. But from elbow to shoulder (even the top of the shoulder - further up than the lady's hand should be) is only 12.5".
Would it maybe be more accurate to say the lady's forearm should rest lightly on the man's upper arm?

Phil it does go without saying that we are not all cast from the same mould.I am putting my tapes onto DVD's. So I am watching them through and noticing things I haven't seen before. In the Tango Marcus Hilton has his right hand a lot lower than is normaly taught. Taking more notice in other dances I believe he has a longer arm from the elbow to the hand than most which is an advantage. It gives the lady much more space on her left side. Then we have ladies who are longer from the bust to the chin which as a picture is more desirable than a lady who does not have that length. Then its up to the coach to get the best out of what they have got. Cheers.

Looks like Don (Polished) is guilty of plagiarism.

lluv2Dance. Plagiarism. Not anything that I put forward is my own. I only know what I see or am taught or I read. Once a person starts to put their own ideas forward unless they are a proven expert is asking for trouble. That also applies to yourself doesn't it.
Cheers.
