Could really use some music selections that are danceable in triple time. Searching several of the dance sites have not seen ANY music suggestions.

danceshoe -- East coast swing is comfortable at 36 measures per minute (MPM). Mutiply by 4 to get 144 beats per minute (BPM). Triple can be done at 180 BPM, but it doesn't have the same feel to me as a normal EC swing at 36 mpm.

There are lots of slow songs in the dancenantucket link - you just have to look through some of the 340 East Coast Swing Songs. It lists the meter.

I love the Huey Lewis CD mentioned in another post.

I don't know if they ever play country songs where you dance, but that's where my wife and I started on East Coast Swing. Next time you're somewhere where they do boot-scootin-boogie, and you think you'll gag if you see that line dance one more time, find a corner and do an East Coast to it. It's lots more fun

Wade-thanks for your post. I checked out the sites listed. I understand that when the music is really fast one uses single time swing. The sites you posted seem to use really fast music as suggestions, IE Brian Setzers "Cat on a Hot Tin roof" at 196 BPM. That's just too fast, at least for my skill level, to do triple time too. (Don't get me wrong...I LOVE Brian Setzer music)

What I am looking for is something a little (alot?) slower. We use "Just a Gigalo...I ain't got nobody" for our Triple time practice tune. I don't know what the BPM is but it's certainly not the frenzied 196 BPM as listed below.

My understanding was that competition East Coast Swing (Triple Time) had a 36 BPM. Am I confused

You can try the Ray Gelato Giants or Jet Set Six, they work pretty good for triple time. Swingerhead has a few good medium tempo songs as well, along with a couple fast songs, Cha-Cha's etc.

Dancelife put out a CD called "Rock this town". The songs on this CD have a wide range of tempi ranging from slow to (29 mpm) to very fast (48 mpm) and everything in between. It is availiable through www.dancevision.com .

Also the music section of ballroomdancers.com listed a few songs from the soundtrack to "The Commitments." You should be able to find this through any music store.

Colin James', "Little Big Band II" has swings of varying tempi" including ones suitable for east coast swing (triple). You can find it through www.amazon.com.

Try the cd "Four Chords & Several Years Ago" from "Huey Lewis & The News". There are a lot of songs in triple time on this cd. I do not dance the East Coast Swing so I don't know the tempo range. You can find more information about this cd in my ballroom magazine. I have included the tempo in bars per minute after each song. Download number 21 of my ballroom magazine.

A lot of music is written in triple time. I think that you can also look for slow jive music like "Return to sender" from "Elvis". "Status Quo" has also a lot of songs in triple time.

there's tons of great triple time music out there...not necessarlily strict tempo but infinetly danceable...e-mail me what kind of music you like...or post it...and I'll give yo some examples.

Lots of top 40 music is cha or 3x danceable...especially the 80's...
