Rivalry's & Friendships

I've found that in almost any competition, it is helpful if you have a friend who is also a rival when it is time to compete. Generally your rival makes you work harder. Would you agree that a rival can be a good thing?

In dancing terms, I see everyone as my "rival": when I see something in their dancing (not necessarily the entire thing, just a little aspect such as the way they position their arms, footwork etc.), I try to do it better in my own dancing. It doesn't matter whether the "rival" is a friend of mine or not, the only advantage I have over friends who are "rivals" is, that I can ask how they do "that and that move"

Yes, as long as it doesn't become destructive.

Of course - but it must be FRIENDLY rivalry. The competitive element is a great motivator. but never lose sight of the fact that dancing is meant to be fun
