Puzzling about dance types

For some slow romnatic songs like "Only You" in the 50's or 60's by Platters, what dance type should it be? Some people said it's Night Club 2 Steps. Was Night Club 2 Steps out in the 50's? If not, what other dance type should one do to that song? Has anyone heard of Slow 4 Step? Is it one type of ballroom dance? Please advise.

Interesting question!!
Most of these songs were 4 beat-to the bar, and so you could do a fox-trot to them. THey weren't meant for that though, and the tempi are far from standard fox-trot (except in a few cases). I actually like to practise to slow fox-trots (about 20-25 bars/minute)as it's difficult and forces you to have excellent balance and control.
What sort of dance were they meant for? Well, here's a clue - try smooching to them

You could do foxtrot if you really wanted to, but it would be SLOW.
