Private Lesson Rates

What is considered a reasonable price for a private lesson? (Not from a 5 time world champion at a workshop or anything, just from a well-trained, independent instructor or one at a reputable studio?

I'm trying to get a range so I don't get ripped off.

The studio I used to teach at charged 80 dollars an hour which was a complete rip off.

All the teachers in the area that I know charge about 40 an hour.

There's going to be quite a bit of variation in the price based on a number of factors, I'm sure. But asking around should give you a decent idea of what teachers usually charge. A couple years ago, a member of our club made a list of some of the area teachers and what they charge per hour for lessons. Things may have changed a bit, but it looks like the average cost here is about $60 +/- around $10 or so.

But if your wanting to compete, try to get an idea of how much they would also charge for a comp. It might be worth going with a bit more pricey instructor for a break at a competition.

We charge $85 per 55 minutes at my studio, and all the instructors are professional competitors. We are aknowledged as being the best teachers in the area. The price range around here (Upstate New York) is $65-$85 per 55 minutes.

Yay! Another person from Holland

At my studio they charge 30 euros for a private lesson (full hour) by a well-trained teacher. (Last time I checked euros and dollars were almost 1:1.)

Hello, i live in Holland. we pay 35 Euro for 1 hour private lesson. My teacher is Rob Rouwhorst, and danced world championschips. (first place!)

$65-$75/lesson (either 45 or 50 minutes, depending on the teacher) in the San Francisco area.

I live in a mid-sized city in a rural state (i.e., we're the biggest city around). There are few ballroom instructors, and not a lot of demand. One couple I know teach ballroom at the local university, they've had professional training and done some competitions, though nothing in what you might call the "major leagues." They provide private lessons for $40/hr.

Here in L.A. the going rate for a well-trained instructor is about $60.
