KEEP GETTING ERROR MESSAGE WHEN I TRY TO VIEW WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER STREAMING VIDEOS. IT CANNOT FIND A SUITABLE DECOMPRESSOR.
Make sure that the Windows Media Player is set as the default player for the video file type that you're trying to play.
I'VE DOWNLOADED THE LATEST VERSION OF WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER TWICE WITH NO SUCCESS. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Did you just download it, or did you download and then install it? Older versions of the MediaPlayer are not self-patching, so the only way to upgrade is to actually launch the installer file after downloading. Find the file on your hard drive and double click on it to launch the installer.
If you're not sure if you installed it or not, it doesn't hurt to do again. Find the file again and double click on it to launch. If you think you've already done this, then you can check which version you have by launching your MediaPlayer, going to the Help menu, and selecting "About Media Player". A window will pop up with the version number of your player. It should be 7.00.00.1440 (or higher). If not, it means that you didn't install what you downloaded.
If you have the latest version, then something very strange is wrong with your MediaPlayer setup... it doesn't have all of the decompression codecs that it's supposed to. Normally those are installed with the software, and if there is a codec that is being skipped, I have no idea why. But if this is the case, then you might try this little trick: Download and install Windows Media producer.
Even if you don't ever plan to produce streaming video for the web, by installing the Media Producer, you will install a whole host of good codecs on your machine. Whatever is being skipped in the install of the player definitely won't be skipped when you install the producer. So if all else fails, try this. It's also a free download from microsoft.
If this is all too much trouble, you might just try using the RealVideo files instead of the WindowsMedia. I rarely ever get a technical question about RealPlayer. It's relatively hassle free.
ALSO I DON'T GET ANY AUDIO WHEN I DOWNLOAD YOUR WEEKLY DANCE VIDEO USING QUICKTIME. ANY SUGGESTION?
No, that's a new one to me. Just check the silly little things, like making sure that your pc speakers are turned on (can you hear music from other quicktime files?) and be sure to turn the volume knob all the way up on the quicktime player. And as always, make sure you have the latest version of the player.
