Dear all

In Tango, there are some figures whose name is the number of steps dancers do. I know the Four Step. But there are also others I don't know clearly: Four Step Change, Fallaway Four Step and Five Step. Who could tell me the different between them. Thank you very much.

You said you know the Four Step and Promenade Link. The Promenade Link is frequently used to Link between the Four Step and Promenade Link. You can read about this figure in The Ballroom Technique of ISTD.
We are not Dance teachers, only Amateurs. For all ISDT books, you can find at Post Sales Office, ISTD, Imperial House, 22-26 Paul Street. London EC2A 4QE by Fax +44 (0)171 247 8979 (24 hour service) by Telephone +44 (0)171 377 1577 (Monday - Friday -9am - 5pm) or in ISTD web.
We hope they are of some help to you.

Thank Dronak, HaThanhTranOanh for your answers.
I 've tried your descriptions and now it's better.
I have another question about Progressive Link and Promenade Link, I know Progressive Link - but the other - Promenade Link I don't know, could you help me? Thank you very much of spending time to give the answer.

-----To HaOanhTranThanh--------

I don't think I've been taught all of these steps before, but I have done a few and perhaps I can get some idea of the others from the technique book. You said you know the Four Step, so I'll try to relate the others to that figure. The Four Step Change looks like a similar figure, but it ends in closed position. Instead of (leader) stepping back on 3 and closing in PP on 4, the feet close on 3 and then there's a tiny step back on 4. According to the book, you also turn 1/4 on the Four Step Change but the Four Step is just 1/8 turn. Timing for the Four Step Change is listed as either QQQQ or QQ&S. The Fallaway Four Step looks like the Four Step, but you go into FA position for steps 2 and 3. Leader's step 2 is side and slightly back in FA, 3 is back in CBMP and FA, then 4 closes in PP. Same timing and turn as Four Step, QQQQ and 1/8 turn. The Five Step I was taught. We were told that it's essentially the same as the Four Step, but the action at the end of the figure is more pronounced and you can shape it more. Instead of simply closing the feet in PP on 4 as the Four Step does, the Five Step takes that 4th step back and slightly right losing some of the CBMP from the previous step and nearing a closed position. Step 5 is then a step without weight, lowering a bit and turning to PP for the end. We also did it with a QQS&S timing but you can use QQQQS and the book lists 1/4 turn. These may not be great descriptions, but I hope they are of some help to you.

Alignment or Direction
According to book, the Four Step you commence facing to the wall and finish facing DW, but the Four Step Change you commence DW and finish DW against LOD.
We hope it helps in some way!
