To get speed, you need firstly to learn delay.
Stanging FULLY on your supporting leg, the turn is made at the end of the step and not as you move onto the step.

To provide contrast you must always dance the slows Completetly to the very end

Work firstly on strengthening your leg, ankle and foot action

be faster

Get a good book on physics and classical mechanics. Your body works like a machine or any other body of mass. If you learn and apply Newtons, Kepplers, etc laws then you can be ultra fast.

Reducing friction
creating tourque first
tightening your center of mass

These types of ideas help your "machine" to work effectively.

When we practice we are constantly talking to each other about the different laws and concepts that are in action with each and every move. Just being aware can do wonders for you. Of course when you actually are dancing, socially or competitively, don't think "Do I have too much drag on my toe...is my axis vertical..." just enjoy!

Just a different "spin" on learning!

One of the best and simplest (conceptually, anyway) suggestions I've gotten when it comes to improving speed is to *not* work on speed at all -- rather, focus on holding your actions for as long as possible, and then your transitions will be quick as a consequence (because you have no alternative, but not because you concentrated on being fast).

In my experience, when people focus solely on speed, they tend to rush or overpower actions. They look off-time or imbalanced, but not particularly faster

Hmmm...there's more to say on that, but it's time to run to a meeting so that will have to do for now!
