| Breathing: ..... I've heard someone talked about breathing and dancing. It's said that taking breath might to keep harmonic with dancing step. A example is (in Slow Waltz): To breath in when rising, to help raising your weight and frame, breath out when falling. Anyone know about that? would you please tell me about what is it? Do it mean We should take breath in consistant with count 1-2-3, for waltz? How to do it when dancing Latin or other quicker rthyme...I can't breath as fast as count number. Thanks in advance

| Dear Curl, Thank for your kind answer everytime. Your knowledges about dancing let me surprices. Maybe becasue I didn't how and where to find those informations. I am wondering how did you know that? That's wonderful! And that let me think that maybe there are still something I've even never known. At least, I didn't find information about "Breathing and dancing" Talking about breathing, like V Waltz, or Jive, their counting are so quick, how should we take breath to keep with its tempo? And those "medical care" guys measured data from you, for what? Did that results mean something? Are you sure it didn't affect your conciousness when your heart was beating so quick, and you didn't take more breathe? Did you try to control breath when dancing or did it naturally? Amazing indeed... thanks in advance john shue

| In waltz we use breathing (only in training, not at comps) , to 1 breath out but dont lose your streched spiral & frame and breath in to 2 but dont raise shoulders and get stiff. My partners never recognice that my breathing frequency raise during dancing, but i dont control it, i recognice my breathing when leaving the floor, when we prepeare our frame for the next dance its gone again... I take a look at my trainers the last day and they do it the same, too. During dancing you dont see them breathing. But after a dance .... I was in a hurry so i cant speak with them about this topic... In germany, some of the high level couples of each county get special trainings, one or two times a mounth. During this , like all common athlets, (we are artist ) they get (sorry, I dont know the correct words in english) sport specific medical care, how to raise condition, what to eat ... ,how to prepeare for comps.... During one of these sessions some guys of an for athlets specialized medical care center come and measure that data. The data was analyzed and they told us something about our condition and give us hints how to perform better on heats at comps. And may be they use this data for other things we dont know . BTW, the best thing was the masseur, i liked it but then he was replaced by a psychatrist... before a comp he talk to us that we are sooooo good... since dancer have a totally different performance profile like "normal" athlets its different to prepeare. A dancer have to give all between the 1 1/2 minutes of dance... every second on the floor count.. 5 times 1 1/2 minute full power ...so we was instructed that dancers have to train very different like 100m or marathon runners. its more like running 1000m 5 times with a break of a minute. so it is OK that the heartbeat is about 180 to 220 after a dance. But during the break it must go down under 100 or 110. At comps we have to dance up to 5 heats including the final (35-40 couples). In training we do final heats, 1 1/2 dancing, 1 minute break, again and again and again. after a little warming up phase 5 final heats with full power and heartbeat have to be under 110 after a break. If heartbeat hangs at 130, the couple was out and have train this extra as homework. |
| Dear Curl ; Thank your explaination..... Those things seems very far from my imagiantion. I think I should read and find more knowledge about ballroom dancing... Thanks a lot agian. John shue in Taiwan |
| tai-chi, kung fu, capoheira, latin, standard, ballett... all the same. unfortunable i am only able to read (a little bit) japanese (but only hiragana, no kanji). Have to learn chinese next... |
| breathing in walt helps to produce a frame with more volume... but in latin i dont recognice it.. sure i breath but cannt say when. Some time ago some "medical care" guys watched our training and connected us to some eletronic devices to measure heartbeat, breathing and other stuff during dancing. we have had to do some final rounds ,all dances 1 1/2 minutes with a break of 1 minute between the dances. It was very amazing, my heartbeat goes up to >200 beats per minute but the breathing frequency was constant at a low rate during dancing. Finally after a dance during the break my breath frequency goes up. |
| Dear Curl : A!HA! I've ever also learned Tai-chi before. It's a traditional chinese Kung-Fu. It is a valuable part of our culture. I've ever heard one amateur internal dancer talk about it in taiwan in internet. But that paragraphy not talked about "breathing and dancing" but balance and weight. I am sorry it'd written in tranditional chinese, otherwise I can post it for you. its major ideas are, Rumba or Cha-cha. The weight movement, arm, hip and body motion are keep constant with Tai-Chi motion (not breathing) and with the posture requirment of Tai-Chi. Putting weight on single standing feet, and the other feet is free or light touching ground. Based on standing leg, you can moveing, turing, of course in order to keep balance, then your torse, arm and muscial will do something (like CBM) to maintain balance point. To sum up, all the weight of your body(from head to leg) is in a line and this line is vertical to ground. Another idea is Tai-Chi said our arm was moveing by itself but with torse motion, it's hard to understand. Anyway, high level Tai-Chi is "no motion but waist action". Every power is orgianl from leg, base on waist, show on arm and torse. Maybe it can give you some idea. John |
| hi john, additional to dancing I do some tai-chi and kung fu (I am only a beginner) but the base techniques are the same
