I just heard a famous (flemish) radioman about the single of Shakira (translated): "a pure-bred (true-born) tango. No surprise, knowing she has Columbian roots."

Now, I think I know how tango sounds and I believe I recognize the tango rhythm. And I also know you may not rely on a song title to know what you can actually dance to it. But you never know. Who knows/thinks/can explain that this song has something tango-ish ? And what would be the relation between Columbia and tango ?

I think disc jockeys, radiomen, etc. should have an understanding of rhythms and dances, before talking nonsense to the world.

What do you think ?

I haven't heard the song you're talking about, but are you familiar with Argentine Tango music? It's very different from the ballroom style.

My partner and I were going to do this for our studio's showcase this summer. The teacher had us start out with Argentine Tango in the beginning, then switch to Salsa when the fast music starts.

I'm from Germany and in my dancing school everyone is dancing jive when they play objection! I think it is very fast, but it works!

When this song was played at a recent dance, everyone stood around for half the song wondering what to do to it. Certainly not Tango. An instructor started a very spritely swing, but no one else could really keep up.

I think the DJ picked up on the accordion (bandeleon?) in the song and thought Tango, maybe Argentine. Is there such a thing as Columbian Tango--maybe this is it?
