10b. Double Overhead Loop The Double Overhead Loop is a type of Basic Step taken in open position starting with a two-hand hold, where both hands are lifted overhead, then placed behind the man's and lady's heads. The hand holds are then released, and the lady's right hand slides down the man's arm to end in a RH-RH hold. The foot positions of the Double Overhead Loop are similar to that of an Open Basic step, with the exception that both chasses are compact. On the first chasse, both man and lady turn 1/4 to the left, to end right shoulder to right shoulder. Then on the second chasse, they turn 1/4 to right, returning to open facing position. The lead for the Double Overhead Loop actually begins on the last step of the previous figure. A two-hand hold is maintained, and as the man and lady replace weight to the front foot on the rock step of the previous figure, the man swings the connected hands down, then outward. The hands continue in a semi-circle to end up overhead as the man and lady begin the first compact chasse in place (1a2). The hands are then lowered, with the LH-RH hold being placed behind the man's head, while the RH-LH hold is placed behind the lady's head. As the second compact chasse is being taken (3a4), the hand holds are released, and the lady's right hand slides down the man's right arm, to end in open facing position, RH-RH hold, for the rock step (1,2). The 1/4 turn to left on the first chasse brings the man and lady into a shoulder-to-shoulder position, facilitating the looped arm positions as the hands are placed behind the man's and lady's heads. Once the hand holds are released, the position is no longer restricted, and the man and lady can turn 1/4 to the right to once again face each other. This turn causes the man's and lady's right sides to move apart, resulting in a very natural hand slide.
