7. Side Steps (Chasses)

In Cha Cha, a series of consecutive chasses can be danced to the count of 2,3, 4&1, at almost any time when in closed or open facing position. Known as Side Steps, they can be taken to the left or right, beginning with either foot.

There are two positions of the feet, closed and apart. With 5 steps per measure, the last step will be the same as the first. Therefore if the first step in the measure is closed, the last step will also be closed. Likewise, if the first step in the measure is apart, the last step will also be apart.

Side Steps in either direction can be taken without turn, or with a gradual turn to the left or right.
